500 varsity students clean Embu town
More
than 500 University of Embu students today came out to clean Embu town in a bid
to create awareness to create a better environment.
The
clean up was one of the institutions corporate social responsibilities. The
exercise started in the town’s central business district then spread to neighbouring
estates such as Majengo and Shauri Yako.
Deputy
Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration, Planning and Finance Prof Eucharia
Kenya said the university is ready to work together with Embu community to
improve the standards of environment.
She said
they were also engaged in tree planting initiatives and garbage recycling.
Embu
Health Executive Dr Jamleck Muturi said the County Government had bought 31
acres of land in Rwika where they plant o relocate the current dumping site to.
He said
they will partner with a private firm to recycle waste into useful products as
well as create jobs.
