MBEERE: Bishop Mashamba says political wrangles impeding county’s development

An Anglican Bishop has expressed concern that political divisions among sections of Embu elected leaders have retarded development in some parts of the county.
ACK Diocese of Mbeere Bishop Moses Mashamba pointed out that the development that the citizens envisaged under devolution was yet to be fully achieved as the leaders tasked with steering county’s progress engaged in political wrangles.
He lamented that in parts of Mbeere region roads were in a sorry state, water shortages common and basic infrastructure lacking yet the area should also be benefiting from devolution.
Rev Mashamba urged key leaders in the county to bury their political differences and lead the country from a united front.
“We call for the unity of all Embu leaders. Those seeking legal recourse have a right to do so. If it comes that a by-election is ordered, it should be conducted peacefully so that the people can decide. We want a county where leaders are united in pursuing development,” he said.
The prelate spoke at ACK St Andrews Kiametho Parish in Mbeere Sub County after commissioning the new Kiametho Parish, hived from the larger Kirima Parish. Rev Abishag Kibonge was installed as the first vicar of the newly created parish.
Rev Mashamba’s appeal comes at a time Governor Martin Wambora and former Senator Lenny Kivuti are embroiled in court litigations emanating from election disputes.
The Bishop urged citizens to endeavour to conserve the environment by massive tree planting during the ongoing rainy season.
