Milk coolers for Embu farmers

Dairy farmers in Embu have
benefitted with three milk coolers from the government, in a bid to
reduce milk wastage in the area.
Agriculture CEC Annie Nyaga
said plans are underway to issue three more coolers aiming to
consolidate milk production and boost farmer’s earnings.
A 3,200 litre capacity
milk cooler issued to Kirimiri Dairy Self-help group at Karurumo
market, Runyenjes constituency by the county and national governments has
enabled the farmers to avoid milk wastage in the evenings.
“Kirimiri opened its door
with 3,200 litres and the milk was sold to Meru Dairy Farmers union the same
day. Thecooler is serving farmers from Kagaari North and Kagaari South.
All farmers in the area have benefited from the facility,” said Ms Nyaga.
Kirimiri is rapidly
expanding operations to all parts of the county and collects thousands of
litres of milk from farmers daily.
Another cooler issued
to Ena-Multipurpose Cooperative in January is fully installed and collecting 3,200
litres daily.
Ms Nyaga revealed plans are
underway to issue more three more coolers in Manyatta, Mbeere south
and Runyenjes sub-counties next month.
“This is a strategic effort
by the county government to promote
dairy farming through improving on the value addition chain,” she said.
