Second Embu investor’s conference starts tomorrow

“A section of residents have on social media criticised the idea to hold the conference saying it amounts to wastage of resources considering the first one did not yield much”

A three-day investor’s conference aiming at maximising value addition of raw agricultural produce and setting up industries in Embu County starts tomorrow.
Governor Martin Wambora said investors from America, Europe, Far East, Africa and locally had confirmed they would attend the conference that will be held at Kenya School of Government, Embu.
Wambora said the three day event will create a platform for both national and international investors to explore the vast investment opportunities in the county.
He said the county has identified five focus areas that will form the core interest of investors. They include value addition of agricultural produce, Tourism, Health, Housing and Mining.
“The investors will also be given an opportunity to explore investment opportunities in renewable energy generation from urban and rural waste, solar power plants, youth employment via business outsourcing, financial services provision, housing and the health sector,” he said.
The Governor also announced that plans are being finalised to establish a copper refining plant.
“We have established contact with the department of mines who are working with us to engage in copper mining. This will be initiated soon” the governor said.

Copper deposits have been discovered in Evurore and Kiambere areas of Mbeere, Embu County, with Wambora saying the initial explorations show the copper is in quantities that can support commercial mining.
He said his government has embarked on strategies that will lead to mining the base mineral in a way that will benefit the county and mitigate environmental degradation.
He said that the county government has set aside land for investors and is seeking likeminded partners to establish industries.
“We have secured financing from the World Bank and other development partners and we have laid out the foundation of the future of the Embu. All we need is investors willing to join us to make this dream a reality,” Wambora said.
A section of residents have on social media criticised the idea to hold the conference saying it amounts to wastage of resources considering the first one did not yield much.
The first investors conference held in 2013 attracted investors from different countries who pledged investments totalling Sh440 billion.
Wambora said constant political wrangles that climaxed with his twin impeachment attempts scared away the investors from implementing their pledges.
