Unarmed man fights police at Manyatta police station
Manyatta
police station in Embu North is on the spot after a lone unarmed man attacked
four police officers and fought them for an hour on Monday about 10pm.
The man
visited the station to report a fire incident at Kirigi market, but in the
process picked up a quarrel with the police and started a fight.
It is unclear
how the man managed to fight four armed police officers for close to an hour in
a police station with tens of officers.
A source
said the man first switched off the electricity at the reporting room before
turning on the police with wild kicks and blows.
Overwhelmed
officers were forced to fire tear gas canisters to flash out of the man who
took to his heals with officers in hot pursuit but they did not catch him.
He left
some officers nursing slight injuries and a few property destroyed.
Embu
North assistant county commissioner Benjamin Birech said police are hunting for
the suspect to establish his motives in attacking the officers, as well as
charge him.
Locals claim
some police officers know the dare devil man. They said he is either mentally
sick or smokes bhang since there was no fire incidence at Kirigi area that
night.
