Embu secures Sh321 billion worth of investments
Embu
County has secured deals totalling to Sh321 billion worth of investments that
were pledged during the just concluded second investors conference.
Most of
the areas of investments will be in green energy, value addition industries,
financial services, mining and, manufacturing.
About
300 local and international investors participated in the conference.
Deputy
Governor David Kariuki said the investors had committed to establishing their mega
projects in the coming months and that that the county government would support
them touch base quickly.
“This
would open up the many opportunities that the county has and will enable us
achieve the county’s transformative agenda. Jobs will be created, idle land
would be utilized and this will create space for development,” he said.
Speaking
during the closing of the conference, Kariuki called for political tolerance to
enable the county to benefit from the pledged deals.
He said
if it were not for the political turmoil that the county has been facing for
the past five years, the County would have bagged about Sh700billion worth of
investments.
Kariuki
said political turmoil witnessed during the twin impeachment of County Governor
Martin Wambora in 2014 scared investors who had pledged Sh440billion in the
county’s first investor’s conference.
Speaking
during the opening ceremony, Wambora said the county will provide land, necessary
incentives and support to the investors wishing to establish value addition
industries.
“Investors
in various sectors ranging from mining, green energy and waste management,
agri-business, hospitality, housing and infrastructure, medicine, ICT,
International schools and talents in collaboration with football academies in
Europe are all here to showcase their prowess in business experience and
investment,” he said.
“I also appreciate local investors for their
creativity, goodwill and trust they have vested in us, we shall too empower and
nurture to the next level,” he said in a briefing on Friday.
He said
investors in the macadamia and coffee industry had already set factories in
Embu resulting into creation of jobs.
County
Members of Parliament and a majority of MCAs skipped the conference, even
though some sent their apologies.
