Embu secures Sh321 billion worth of investments

Embu County has secured deals totalling to Sh321 billion worth of investments that were pledged during the just concluded second investors conference. Most of the areas of investments will be in green energy, value addition industries, financial services, mining and, manufacturing. About 300 local and international investors participated in the conference. Deputy Governor David Kariuki said the investors had committed to establishing their mega projects in the coming months and that that the county government would support them touch base quickly. “This would open up the many opportunities that the county has and will enable us achieve the county’s transformative agenda. Jobs will be created, idle land would be utilized and this will create space for development,” he said. Sacco started by Jua Kali artists to start offering FOSA services

A cooperative that was started by Jua Kali artisans and small scale traders in Runyenjes town of Embu County now plans to start offering Front Office Sacco Activities (FOSA) to meet needs of members. Started 10 years ago with an initial share capital of Sh237,000, Focus Sacco Society has grown considerably and now boosts savings of Sh17 million. Sacco chairman Rev Linus Muriithi said they resolved to start FOSA services, having set aside Sh10 million deposit as a requirement by the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (Sasra). Speaking during the Sacco’s annual general meeting, Rev Muriithi said they are in the process of registering for FOSA aiming to operationalise it by next year, an achievement that will diversify the transactions to members in savings and lending.  He revealed the plan to start FOSA is contained in the Sacco’s 2017-2019 strategic plan. Dr. Robinson Kariuki, principal Kabaare College The University of Embu (UoEm) has laid out plans to ensure all her lecturers acquire a PHD within the shortest time possible, the vice chancellor has said. This is in the move to comply with the Commission for University Education (CUE) that all lecturers must acquire a PHD degree by October this year for them to qualify to teach in universities. “Acquiring a PHD is a process. As a university, we have a plan to ensure our lecturers acquire it very soon as they continue to teach.
