Clergy "cleanses" newly tarmacked, but killer road
The clergy of various churches in Embu County and their
congregation recently held thanksgiving and cleansing prayer walk on the
recently tarmacked Kianjokoma-Kanja road. Tarmacked in January, the road has
claimed more than 10 lives through motorcycle, vehicles and bicycles accidents,
according to Kagaari North West location chief, Mark Nyaga. The worshippers who
were led by Redeemed Gospel Church Bishop, Rev Samuel Nginyi and St Joseph
Kianjokoma Parish, Fr Robert Namu made an 8km procession along the road. They
made 10 stops to pray and pour anointing oil, making a symbol of the cross. The
event started with briefing and prayers at Kianjokoma Parish where Rev Nginyi
said the clergy had put aside their differences for the interdenominational
prayers. “The tarmacked road is a blessing to us, but it has also brought
deaths and injuries. God promised us that when his people repent of their sins
and turn to him in prayers he will heal their land. We believe that after God
will hear our prayers and there will be no more accidents on the road,” said
Rev Nginyi. Fr Namu said God did not provide the tarmacked road for it to claim
lives but to enable the area thrive and the gospel to spread. Chief Nyaga said
most of the accidents witnessed on the road were caused by speeding and
recklessness by road users. “We appeal to the government to install bumps and
signboards on the road to enhance safety. Before they are installed, I urge
road users to observe traffic laws. Even if we pray but the indiscipline on the
road continues, accidents will continue to happen,” he said. Among those who
have perished in the road are primary school children and pastor. The prayers
which lasted from 10am to 4pm also entailed praying for the country leaders.
The prayers also involved repenting of sins by the community.
